Day 1 in New York: Union City and our diggs

Date: Thursday 20.2.2014

Part 2 of last night's post I was too tired to finish.

We found our place pretty easily, thanks to Nokia Maps, boy these people love their one way streets :).
First thing I noticed was the problems with snow - there's not much of snow here, but the small amount seem to be a problem. There are cars under masses of snow, and lots of parking spaces on the side of the roads are covered with accumulated snow taking up places. Most of the snow taking up parking would be easily taken care of with a snow shovel, so they'd take more less space.

The architecture is interesting, seems that there's isn't much limitations what to build on your plot, all the houses are different, different colors, materials, feels. Some of them have brass railings, others golden and some made of wood. Sitting next by each other. I kinda get it now why we have some limitations of what kind of houses you can build on a certain streets. But you can also say that this kind of architecture has its charm.

Local way to put up electricity is pretty interesting compared to us
First can of energy drink finished, Halen is happy
Our place to stay was pretty much what we expected, a nice little apartment with two beds. I volunteered to sleep on the couch because there was only two beds. I can say that the guys had the longer straw on this one, because the couch isn't really comfortable.

Cute little beds for the guys
After getting our stuff to safety, we started to wander around Union City to catch a chicken bus to Manhattan. First order of business was to get to B&H to gear up. And maybe get something to eat after that.

Signs, forbidding something, everywhere.

Aivan 2, local liqueur store

BTW, our place starts to look like us - lots of gear everywhere. Clothes in the bags are mostly for keeping it safe during transit :D
