What's up, chicken butt? First project was to get to Manhattan, in the rush hour. It was kinda funny to listen to the screeching breaks all around you - it was clear that was pretty usual way to move for those cars, front breaks worn down.
To the city we used Chicken bus (it's a smaller bus than a normal version), jumped on from a bus stop next to the Post Office. Chicken buses cost 3$ and you need to pay it flat, you don't get change back. They differ from a normal bus in a way that you can get in and out of one anywhere - like when they're stopping for traffic lights.
Normally it takes around 15 minutes to get to Manhattan with these, but we were on a move during rush hour, so it took a lot of more time - and there was some fender benders again slowing down the traffic.

First, and the most important stop of our New York trip was B&H photovideo. It's a wet dream for every photographer, when you win the lottery.
From B&H I purchased a lighter tripod, ball head and an USB drive. The seller who helped me was a really cute guy, I would've bought him too if it would have been possible ;). I sold the idea of visiting Iceland to him while we were talking, so the conversation got also expensive for him :P.
As for me, the store's way to work was something new: when you go inside the shop, you need to leave your bags to the desk. Then you wander around and there are sellers always "hanging around" near you when you stay in some point over a minute. Watching, and waiting..
The stuff you can physically get (which aren't in the back or behind a counter), you get to a counter, and get a receipt (or add it to your earlier receipt) and leave the stuff there. When you're ready, you wait in line to get to the cashier, pay the order and then you go to a another desk, wait in line to get your stuff, and then go to get your stuff from the cloakroom.
Traffic polices drive with these, funny to see these moving, only one cop inside and another one following. |
Emergency vehicles, yet again |
We had two sets of meals on the plane, but after a while we got hungry. It took us surprisingly long to find a place where we all wanted to eat. I've had an urge to eat healthy for couple of months now, so I really didn't like that every place was filled with regular fast food. Still I somehow ended up taking a beef & bacon hamburger like the guys did.

Bacon, beef, mushrooms, fries. Omnomn. |
The place located next the Port Authority bus station, the service was very friendly and the cashier was pretty happy person. The customers ended up talking with her long time, so I'm pretty sure the place is very popular with the people living next to it.
Reflection of the text on the Port Authority Bus Station |
On our way back we used the NJtransit bus, the terminal was pretty interesting big complex, where you stand in a glass box waiting the bus to arrive, and there's one person checking how many persons get inside and another driving the bus. Usually when one leaves, there's another going to the same place short after - both times we used the bus, one bus wasn't enough to accommodate all the passengers.
Stubled upon this beauty while walking back home. Love it - and I'm wondering did someone really drive it in this weather o.O? |
